Sub-folder or Subdomain or New domain – which is the best option for SEO?

Individual domains and subfolders have their own benefits from SEO and business point of view. If you create separate sites for your different services then you have to optimize all sites accordingly. Having separate sites for different service may help you to optimize your websites properly but you can do the same with a single domain by using sub-folders or subdomains. If you put your all effort for an individual site then that site perform well instead of doing similar job for 4 sites, it also quite cost effective.

So it is better to stick with a single domain and there you can use folders (yourdomain.com/xyz) or create subdomains (xyz.yourdomain.com) for different services. Google also uses Subdomains for their different set of services, for example maps.google.com, news.google.com and blogsearch.google.com. Each of these Subdomains has their own content and focus on different services.
Instead of cost effective, Subdomain or sub folder also helps you in other terms. Like -

It is quite easy to handle one single website instead of 4 websites.
If your visitor enters any of your subdomains then they can easily find out your other section and your main website.
If you are going for a sub folder or subdomain it will yield better results. Search engines will distribute ranking power among other pages on the subdomain including home page. If your subdomain is popular and receives plenty of links, then your main domain will benefit from the activities on your subdomain.

So it is better to create separate subdomain for your different services.

A Fast Way To CM

It seems that Indian Govt has announced a new scheme for the So Called INDIAN POLITICIAN, which is – if they going to Fast for a long time then they will be awarded with a new State. A noble and novel idea indeed.

Mr. KCR (Mr. K. Chandrasekhar Rao) already got his reward from Indian Home Ministry in the form of a new state: Telangana after continuing his fast for 10 days. It is an insightful decision taken by our prudent politicians who believes in “Small is beautiful”. Now politician can now rule in his or her own district, because INDIA is going to be divided into 626 STATE (INDIA have 626 districts till date). As per Mr. K. Chandrasekhar Rao, he has followed the Gandhian method of agitation but there was nothing much “Gandhianism” to be seen from their supporters. Gandhiji was used this method to protect India and unity. However, Indian politicians have modified this Gandhian method a little bit for dividing India and Indians for the betterment of the society as a whole.

The Home Ministry has set an exemplified example by accepting the demand for separate state and hopefully our next-to-door politicians will get some oxygen from it and I believe we will notice another phrase of agitation and rampage in our own state within few days. The Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) has already announced an indefinite hunger strike for a separate Gorkhaland state. There are many states in India which have similar demands but what will happen if all the parties start demanding for a new state then those days are not far when every district, every Area, every Gali and Every Mahalla will have their own CM and own ministry and their official slogan will be “Telangana can, we will too”. Hopefully, I can have my own state as well in my lane. Lol

Page load speed will be Main Google Ranking Factor in 2010

At PubCon, Matt Cutts from Google said they will introduce a new ranking factor into the Google ranking algorithm. The new ranking factor will be how fast a site or page loads.
In a video interview for Web Pro News Matt Cutts has given a clear hint that page load speed will be a part of Googles algorithm next year, it also main ranking factor for Google. Page speed is already part of the AdWords quality score algorithm but until now it’s not directly been part of the main search algorithm.

Historically, we haven’t had to use it in our search rankings, but a lot of people within Google think that the web should be fast. It should be a good experience, and so it’s sort of fair to say that if you’re a fast site, maybe you should get a little bit of a bonus. If you really have an awfully slow site, then maybe users don’t want that as much.
I think a lot of people in 2010 are going to be thinking more about ‘how do I have my site be fast,’ how do I have it be rich without writing a bunch of custom javascript?’

Kolkata Bloggers Meet, 2009 and Webreps.in

When I started my career in Online Marketing 4 years back, then I didn’t have any knowledge about blogging. Thanks to Mr. Arindam Mitra who guided me to create my first blog. But at that time, things were not so easy for me… and I faced lots of problems with it. Each problem that I solved inspired me to do some more new experiments with my blog. Now I feel that creation of blog is not a tough job, but this may not be true for non techie people. They don’t know how easily they can maintain their online diary; even few people don’t even know what a blog is? Or What is Wordpress? Or what is Blogspot? So if we (who have some knowledge abt blogging) come forward and educate them about blogging and online presence, then by using these tools people can easily promote their views and products online.

To become successful on this mission we need a stage where all of us can meet and decide what will be our task and how will we do it? What will be the process .. etc. etc. So here Webreps comes into the scene. Webreps means Web Representative, who represent better web for the people and also help them to create their online presence.

So as a first move, we arranged Kolkata Bloggers Meet. If you are a blogger from Kolkata or thinking about becoming a blogger or a webby then join us at Kolkata Blogger’s meet ’09 on 8th August 2009 at CCD; Saltlake Sector 5; Kolkata. More details here.

We planned for this event many months ago, but somehow it did not work at that time. Now, we (Kamanashish, Anirudh, Shimul and Saikat) have been able to give our idea a shape. This is just a beginning. We are planning to take the initiative further. We may think about monthly web camps where we can help different non profit organization in web set up. This is just a suggestion. The people at the meet will decide on what we can do to take this initiative further. We already got some good ideas from bloggers, hopefully we will get some more ideas on the meet. I am quite excited about it bkz this will be a whole new experience to me.

SEO and PPC work hand in hand in a SEM campaign

There are many people who still believe that SEO and PPC is one and the same thing. They often remain confused with these two marketing channels. SEO is not an advertising model. It is a process of consistent tweaking and monitoring so that your website shows in the high ranking results as per the search engine optimization.

PPC advertising is an advertising model where you can bid for certain keywords that are necessary to your business and your ads will show up in the sponsored area of the SERP. SEO and PPC are two different marketing channels and each of them has its own unique benefits to grow your business prospects.

SEO, or better known as search engine optimization, is a process and series of services that will deliver great results when you have quality content on your website. With the right keyword analysis and optimization process, your website will get quickly indexed by the search engines and get high rankings on organic listings for keywords that must be related to your products and services.

Importance of anchor text in SEO

Website linking is a very important factor for the purpose of SEO and most of the priority lies on the actual text that makes up the link. The text that is hyperlinked while referring web resources is called anchor text. Let me elaborate the importance with two different examples.

1) To find the most beautiful watches, click here
2) To find the most beautiful diamond watches, click Diamond Watches

The last two words in both the sentences above will be hyperlinked to a specific webpage. This text is called the anchor text. This link will redirect visitors to the other website where you want the visitors to go.

Whether you do an external linking or an internal linking to any website, use the keywords in your anchor text. This is very important in terms of SEO. Having an anchor text will generate more traffic than a general word. If the Anchor Text is made up from your Keywords that link will carry a lot more weight in the eyes of Google.
Without any doubt, you should use those keywords on the anchor text relevant to the content on the actual website. This is a VERY important aspect of off-page SEO.
Whenever someone wants to link to your website, ask them to use the keyword on the anchor text that is relevant to your website content. If required, send them an email showing how the anchor text will be linked to the keyword from their website. If you are doing article submission on other websites, you have full control over the text link. That’s the reason, article submission happens to be very powerful when it comes to SEO.
